Research and Planning Targets

Love the filming of your use of make-up - truly exceptional!  Make sure you evidence your time-management and explore location.  Storyboarding needs evidencing to complete this stage of your portfolio.  A very strong start so far!

FILM DIARY

Monday 2nd of January

This was the original day we were meant to film our footage. However, due to some technical difficulties, we had to postpone for Friday the 6th of January 2017.

Friday 6th of January

Around 4 pm we arrived at the setting where our film was taking place (house). We shot our footage later in the day after school because the lighting was more appropriate. In the winter it gets darker earlier. This was perfect for our film because it's set in the evening, so we didn't have to be cautious about lighting.

4:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Began preparation e.g setting of location, camera, tripod, costume and makeup.

4:30 PM - 5:00 PM

We began filming with Ivy's part in her bedroom. This took the longest to film because we used a variety of camera shots and angles.

5:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Antagonist's special effect make- up using liquid latex, ink colour, and fake blood.

4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Filmed the last footage kitchen scene

We managed to film all the footage needed for our opening two minute, ready to edit at school using adobe premiere elements.

Mise-en-scene

Make-up

This video above shows the step-by-step process we took to achieve the burnt/scarred look on our antagonist’s hand, using special effect make-up.

I particularly enjoyed doing the special effect make-up because it looks, realistic and turned out very successful.

                                                                           Costume

The two images show the costumes worn by out characters Ivy and the antagonist.

We had difficulties, with Ivy’s costume, because we were unable to find plain pajamas within our budget online. However, I came across the pajamas worn by Ivy on the website Boux Avenue. They were on sale.

On the other hand, our antagonist’s costume was easy to find and relatively cheap. Overall, the costumes we pursued were suitable for our opening two minutes.

RESEARCH AND PLANNING TASK: TITLE FONTS

Choosing, the right font for a movie is important. This is because it can have a significant impact on a film. Furthermore, different font styles give the audience and an idea of what genre a movie is and what to expect.

I created a mood board, of fonts used as titles in well-known horror films.
The title of our film is called SEEN 23:59 PM. We choose this as our title because it relates to the content in our opening two minutes. Down below are some examples of font ideas for our movie title.

Neue Helvetica 55 Roman font

The first font is particularly relevant to our film because it’s the same font used in the app iMessage. This app will be used in the beginning of our opening two-minute. The font is simple and basic. Additionally, each of the letters is exactly the same size.Using, this font for our title is effective because it's bold and clear making it easy for the audience to read.

Chops Chops by Font Monger

The font is effective because it’s bold and striking. The sharp edges on each of the letters imply sinister. Furthermore, the font also suggests sharp weapons perhaps a knife used by the killer. Although this font gives off a dark aura, it would be more suitable the genre action Horror.

The Defiler font by Font Monger

This font style is messy and effective because it creates mystery and confusion. However, by using this font it could make it difficult for the audience to read, as it’s not clear. The streakiness and spiky texture of the font looks like blood and implies violence. However, I don’t think it would fit in with our film Seen 23:59 PM because the font resembles the horror genre slasher.

Adobe Caslon Pro font
The font Adobe Caslon Pro, will be used for our tile because it's similar to fonts used in most horror films.
