Set in a nursing home "The
Notebook" is a romantic film, which alternates between the same couple at
different stages of their lives, young through old.
The movie consists of an old male resident
reading to a female resident suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. From the
Notebook the male resident is reading a story which involves two young lovers,
who were separated due to social class status however they reconnect and
discover the love they once had again.
In the film, the plot contains all of the
typical traits needed for a tragic –romantic movie: separation, heartbreak, and
social class status, love at first sight and illness. Due to theses convention,
it makes the movies similar to most romantic films.
The reason why I enjoy the “The Notebook”
and consider it as one of my favorite films is because of the emotions the
movie delivers, through the joinery of heartbreak and sorrow, which I as the
audience empathize with.
